Traditional Chinese Calligraphy Course
The Zhengdao Chinese Language Association offers a public-access, in-person course in Traditional Chinese Calligraphy, welcoming learners who wish to experience one of the most respected cultural arts of Chinese civilization. Through guided practice and expert instruction, participants are introduced to the classical techniques, historical depth, and artistic philosophy that define this traditional craft.
Classes are offered at multiple university locations, including Binghamton University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Pittsburgh, and Penn State University. Additional locations may be arranged based on teacher availability and student demand, allowing the course to reach a wider range of communities. Each session is held in person to ensure students receive hands-on practice and direct guidance from experienced instructors.

Students learn proper brush handling, stroke order, character structure, and the cultural meaning embedded in different styles of calligraphy. Throughout the course, participants work with authentic materials—such as brush, ink, rice paper, and ink stone—to develop both technical skill and artistic expression. Instruction emphasizes traditional methods passed down through generations, ensuring learners gain access to refined and deeply rooted calligraphy practices.

To help maintain quality and provide all necessary tools, the course charges only a minimal materials fee, which covers items such as rice paper, ink, brushes, and other essential supplies. Those interested in joining are encouraged to contact us with an inquiry of interest. Our team will respond promptly with details about upcoming sessions, available locations, and how to register.
