Chinese characters are among the world’s oldest continuously used writing systems, carrying thousands of years of history, philosophy, and cultural wisdom. Unlike alphabetic languages, Chinese characters were originally created as visual symbols that reflected people’s observations of nature, society, and human experience.

Drawing on decades of Zhengdao’s research into ancient Chinese scripts, this course traces the evolution of Chinese characters from Oracle Bone Script (Jiaguwen), Bronze Inscriptions (Jinwen), and Small Seal Script (Xiaozhuan) to their modern forms. By uncovering the original meanings and cultural roots hidden within each character, students gain a deeper understanding of how the Chinese language developed and how Chinese people have viewed the world throughout history.

This unique approach transforms character learning from simple memorization into meaningful discovery. Through the pictographic, logical, and historical features of Chinese writing, learners can recognize patterns, improve retention, expand vocabulary more naturally, and develop a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture. For non-native speakers, understanding the stories behind characters makes learning Chinese more intuitive, engaging, and rewarding.

Whether you are a beginner seeking a stronger foundation or an advanced learner interested in the deeper dimensions of Chinese language and civilization, this course offers a fascinating journey into the true meaning of Chinese characters.
